Furniture made with recycled plastic

It might be difficult, it might seem like a small gesture, but at Hannun we want to tackle plastic pollution. And that’s exactly what we’re taking steps to do by launching a collection that aims to give a new life to post-industrial plastic, recovering some of what’s been dumped into the ocean.

PLASTIC POLLUTION IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES AN URGENT RESPONSE. HOW CAN WE LET SOMETHING WE HAVE IN OUR HANDS FOR JUST A FEW MINUTES HAVE A DAMAGING EFFECT ON LIFE, IN AND OUT OF THE WATER, FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, IF NOT FOREVER?

MORE THAN 8 MILLION TONNES.

The amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean every year.

BETWEEN 450 YEARS AND FOREVER

The estimated time it takes for the plastic to “disappear”.

700 SPECIES

More than 100,000 mammals and 1 million birds die every year through ingestion, toxicity, suffocation or entrapment.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

At Hannun, we’re committed to changing the statu quo, and we want to have a positive impact in and out of the sea. Because if we’re all able to do our bit, we can truly make a difference. We don’t have to invent anything new; we have to do the things we already do better!

1 We’ve reduced our plastic use to just 2% of all raw materials we work with.
2 We’re launching The Way We Sea collection, which features 100% recycled plastic.
3 We work with teams that are specialists in the separation and recycling of waste in all our workshops.

A COLLECTION WITH IMPACT

SUSTAINABLE WOOD AND RECYCLED PLASTIC

This is the first time our craftspeople have used recycled plastic in the most iconic Hannun pieces, but it’s not just a question of aesthetics, we want to have a positive impact on the planet.

By recovering and recycling the material, we don’t just prevent more waste polluting the ocean and threatening life in and out of the sea, we’re also giving new and better use to the plastic we already have in our environment, reducing the consumption of wood.

THE WAY WE SEA COLLECTION

WE WANT TO GIVE A NEW LIFE TO A MATERIAL THAT WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE THREATENED SEA LIFE AS WE KNOW IT.

Each piece of furniture in our “The way we SEA” collection is made with recovered and recycled post-industrial plastic. Recycling this material means we can change the course of its life for the better, redirecting it from the sea and back into the system, reducing the consumption of raw materials such as wood in the process.

With your help, we can prevent up to 1 kg of plastic per piece of furniture from ending up in the sea. Imagine how much we could clean up if we work together?

NEW AND IMPROVED MATERIAL

HOW DO WE DO IT?

WITH THE HELP OF THE GRAVITY WAVE, WE’RE CREATED A ONE-OF-A-KIND MATERIAL THAT COMPLEMENTS THE WOOD AESTHETICS, THAT’S DURABLE, AND THAT’S WATERPROOF, AMONGST OTHER FEATURES.

TO MAKE IT, WE’VE RECOVERED THE PLASTIC WASTE, PROCESSED IT, CRUSHED IT, AND MELTED IT DOWN INTO A NEW SHAPE. SO – NO TWO PIECES WILL BE THE SAME!
