Being a B Corp®
company doesn’t mean being perfect
As the first B Corp® Spanish company in the furniture sector in Europe, we’re committed to promoting positive change through our business.
At Hannun, we have spent years supporting and fostering an industry based on slow furniture, where the environment, people and society are looked after. At present, we can safely say that we are the most sustainable option available across the whole furniture market.
Over the course of these years, we have produced 93,333 pieces of furniture, of which 95% has come from sustainable origins.
Our mission
Our mission is to find a solution to environmental problems caused by the furniture and decoration industry by creating artisanal, sustainable and long-lasting products.
Our commitment
When the impact is so positive, the only thing we comfortable doing is fully committing to doing things “in a different way”.
Saving the planet
The illegal felling of trees is the number 1 environmental crime on a global scale and is a crime that is causing the destruction of forests across the planet. Deforestation is a reality which affects us significantly and it’s for this reason that we decided to travel to Amazonia for ourselves to give you a first-hand account of what is happening there.
FIND OUT MOREWe simply can’t ignore uncontrolled deforestation and the terrible impact it has on the planet. We believe the best tree is that which is not felled at all, which is why we prioritise the use of recovered wood to make our furniture and avoid the need to extract natural materials.
The vast majority of our furniture is made from controlled and sustainable wood which is extracted from European forests and is certified with FSC and PEFC seals of approval.
The use of wood is our biggest commitment. Recovered wood furniture requires less paint and dye, meaning that contamination is reduced even further.
We use eco-friendly materials including our varnishes, giving products the most natural finish possible. These varnishes are made using linseed essential oil, waxes, mineral-based dyes and even water. They are free from toxins which means they don’t contaminate like the vast majority of traditional varnishes which are made from highly toxic chemical substances.
Putting people at the heart of what we do
Traditional artisans are excluded from the global economic system given that they don’t participate in mass factory production.
We revive local economy by partnering exclusively with artisans’ workshops in Europe, offering these talented individuals fair and beneficial working agreements and conditions.
We now boast over 40 workshops that employ more than 200 artisans! They work using traditional artisan techniques that make each piece unique
At Hannun, we support local consumption.
We craft our furniture in Europe, which means we can be sure that employees work in decent conditions. We prefer this model instead of outsourcing production to places where human rights are violated through practices like child exploitation.
On top of this, the manufacturing of our products doesn’t use any fabrics of animal origin (our PETA certificate verifies this) meaning that our products are totally free of animal cruelty in all its forms.
A more inclusive society
Our workshops reflect the society we aspire to be: more diverse and inclusive. For the same reason, Hannun works with all kinds of people from every community, people with disabilities and people at risk of exclusion.
At Hannun, we work alongside Cruz Roja (The Red Cross) and other not-for-profit organisations to hold workshops designed to involve people at risk of exclusion.
Zero waste
Out of the 10.5 million tonnes of furniture manufactured in Europe each year, it is estimated that at least 10 million tonnes of it ends up being incinerated, turning it into environmental waste and pollution.
Our battle is centred on reducing waste, meaning that we: Work on-demand and find ways to save damaged furniture through the creation of our Reuse Market, where we give a second life to products that are blemished or damaged after coming from showrooms, protype phases and a range of other products in genera
At Hannun, we are accredited with the Carbon Neutral seal, which guarantees that we don’t emit any harmful gases into the atmosphere.
What we do with plastic
Eight million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the sea every year. We must tackle plastic pollution, one of the most worrying and irreversible forms of pollution.
To this end, we have launched a collection that incorporates pieces of post-industrial plastic to prevent it from being thrown into the sea, and which recovers part of the plastic that has already sunk into the ocean. We have also completely eliminated the presence of plastic inside our packages.
At Hannun, as you can see, we are continuously working to build an inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative economy for people and the planet. Not only through our products, but through everything behind them: workers, customers, planet and society
That said, we’re NOT perfect yet.
We still have a long way to go, working every day together with our community, customers and employees to deliver what our society and environment need: a positive impact.
ZERO FELLING
Our aim is to manufacture all our furniture with 100% recycled wood. To manufacture without felling. And to use alternative materials that provide a solution to serious problems like plastic use, working with recycled plastic and removing screws to facilitate the recycling of the furniture.
ZERO PLASTIC
Reaching a complete elimination of plastic from our production processes.
ZERO WASTE
Reducing our stock and working on demand to ensure we don’t generate unnecessary waste.
Developing a system in which the customer can return their furniture once it's no longer needed so that we can give that wood a second life.
100% INTEGRATION
Continuing to incorporate workshops into our network of craftsmen and craftswomen that integrate those at risk of exclusion and employ people with disabilities.
100% EQUALITY
Continuing to work towards being a company with less gender inequality and equal opportunities for men and women.
ZERO EMISSIONS
Continuing to work on a system that allows for minimum CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, grouping shipments by areas and establishing a SLOW shipment process that respects the planet.
As a B Corp® company we believe
Change begins at home.
At Hannun, we strive to be the change we want to see in the world and hopefully inspire more companies to follow suit.
People and the planet come first.
At Hannun, people and the planet matter most. We work together to make a real global impact.
Social and environmental benefit.
At Hannun, we believe that if something benefits us but harms the environment then, in reality, it doesn't benefit us.
