Artisanship is genderless

Listen to this story

A problem in traditional crafts is gender discrimination. It’s difficult to imagine women working in iron smelting or men weaving. From the moment we think that it’s unusual for a woman to be a foundry worker, we’re perpetuating these stereotypes. And it’s time to break them all down.

Moreover, when we think about craftwork we usually refer mainly to the artistic production of men. From Hannun we want to contribute to disassociate the concept of artisanship with the male gender.

That's why today we would like to speak to you about Veronique, a craftswoman specialising in wood recycling who creates incredible pieces of furniture such as our Sigre Table. Or Ikram, who makes artistic pieces full of symbolism, such as the Dosu Macramé. Sandra and her team handcraft the most of our chairs and stools, such as the Lindita Chair.

We can' t forget Jessica, who manages one of Hannun's flagship workshops, located in Sabadell, where some of our most iconic products such as the Hexagon Shelf are manufactured. Marianne is responsible for the floral compositions of our dried flowers bouquets, such as Cosmina.

All of them are part of Hannun's expertise and all of them are the force of change. Because although society is changing, there’s still a long way ahead of us. 💪💜
