Our seas and oceans are filled with plastics. Data is very alarming: more than 13 million tons of plastic are thrown into the water yearly. This is a severe problem that we urgently need to address.
At Hannun, we believe that it is time to take action. Companies have more tools to make this change a reality; we are responsible for doing so precisely for this reason. Cleaning up our ecosystems is possible if we offer more sustainable alternatives.
AN IMPACTFUL COLLECTION
We partnered with Gravity Wave to create The Way We SEA. This impactful collection integrates plastic into our most emblematic pieces, thus preventing it from ending at the bottom of the sea. By reclaiming and recycling plastic to create new furniture, we take another step to curb the oceans' pollution.
The furniture of this collection combines wood with 100% recycled post-industrial plastic from containers and PET bottles, which we rescued before they were thrown into the water. Something that lasts only a few minutes in our hands should not permanently harm life in and out of the water.
GRAVITY WAVE’S FIGHT
Gravity Wave is a social enterprise with an outstanding commitment. From their office in Calpe (Alicante), they work non-stop to increase our environmental awareness and transform our consumption habits. Their goal is to extract plastic from the Mediterranean Sea (on the coasts of Greece, Italy, Egypt, and Spain) and transform it into products with an additional value: they tell a story.
Prevention is as important as cleaning. That is why Gravity Wave focuses on preventing plastic from reaching the sea. To do this, they make agreements with different companies and entities so that they can recycle and use all the plastic from their factories. Our union came to life as we started working together to tackle the plastic problem at the root.
SAVING LIVES: INSIDE AND OUTSIDE
More than 13 million tons of plastic end in the ocean every year. The danger this poses for the species coexisting inside and outside the water is extremely concerning. This amount of plastic puts more than 2,000 marine species in danger and causes the death of 100,000 marine animals. Maisha Coat Rack The Way We SEA
Through this collection, we want to give visibility to this situation by betting on creating furniture that goes beyond an aesthetic need. Although we know this collection will not save the planet, we believe it is a small step towards the future we imagine.
PLASTIC IS NOT THE ENEMY
Plastic is not our enemy; we simply need to use it more efficiently. It is a very versatile and durable material that offers many advantages, but we do not need to produce more. We currently have more than enough plastic on the planet, and our focus should be on recycling it.
At Hannun, we believe in the value of raw materials that already exist because it allows us to create durable products that, at the same time, clean the ocean from plastics. This is how we see it; we want to be part of the solution with you.
