Hannun’s THE WAY WE SEA collection, winner of the Gravity Wave Award

Listen to this story

Hannun is celebrating! Our THE WAY WE SEA collection has been awarded Best Product in the inaugural edition of the Gravity Wave Awards.

Gravity Wave, a company that collects plastic from the bottom of the sea and transforms it into furniture and other everyday objects, held the awards ceremony on 10 February at the International LAB headquarters in Madrid.

#PlasticFreeOceans

The aim of the awards is to recognise and highlight the work of different companies and organisations in the fight against plastic pollution in our seas and oceans. All of them have joined the #PlasticFreeOceans movement, promoted by Gravity Wave, which aims to extract plastic waste from the Mediterranean Sea to give it a new life.

Companies from various sectors, such as Clicars, Reale Seguros, Flying Tiger and Dentaltix, as well as the Ayuntamiento de Calpe, were also awarded for their initiatives combatting marine pollution.

“We couldn't be more pleased and proud to have received this award. For Hannun, the recycled plastic collection involves the use of new sustainable materials in our most iconic wood designs. Receiving this award encourages and inspires us to continue researching new ways to make our products an increasingly planet and people-friendly alternative”.

María Jesús Montilla, HANNUN Product Manager

The Way We Sea: sustainable wood with recycled plastic

Last summer, we asked our craftsmen and craftswomen to incorporate recycled plastic parts into some of our most iconic products: the Makemba shelf, the Hexagon shelf, the Ashanti shelf, the Lebi table, the Triangle shelf, the Kania table, the Maisha coat rack, and the Nereo surfboard hanger.

Almost all the products in the collection are made from recovered and recycled post-industrial plastic to prevent it from ending up as waste and being thrown into the Mediterranean Sea. The surfboard hanger is also made entirely from 100% recycled plastic from fishing nets recovered from the sea.
