OUR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
For the last two years at Hannun we’ve been working on becoming a sustainable-origin furniture company, committed to the slow-furniture industry that respects our planet and looks after our environment. To do so, we’ve been working extremely hard to offer you the best sustainable option on the market. During this time, we’ve sold 53,594 pieces of furniture, 95% of which are of sustainable origin.
But on top of this, we’ve also been working on our social commitment. We support small businesses and the local economy, working with artisanal workshops that handcraft each piece to make them truly unique. There are now a total of 25 workshops directly employing more than 60 craftsmen!
RECLAIMED WOOD AND ZERO WASTE
Reusing wood is our biggest commitment to the environment. Pieces of furniture made from reclaimed wood require fewer paints and dyes, meaning they’re less polluting too.
We’re also committed to the Zero Waste philosophy with initiatives like our Reuse Market. There, we reduce the price of products that have been damaged slightly in transport, returned by customers, or contain a small defect, as much as we can. This way, we can find a home for all products and avoid waste as much as possible.
Our craftsmen use only eco-friendly varnishes to look after the environment and add the finishing touch to our products in the most natural way possible. These varnishes are made with bases of linseed oil, waxes, mineral pigments, or even water. They contain no toxins in their composition and therefore don’t pollute either, unlike your classic varnished made of toxic chemical substances.
PEFC & FSC CERTIFICATIONS
At Hannun, we are PEFC (the Spanish Association for Sustainable Foresting) certified and have the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) seal, which certifies that we use only wood from sustainable forests. These certifications are awarded to everyone involved in the production chain, from the forestry companies to those making the final product. These non-profit organisations promote responsible forest management to prevent unsustainable logging and economic interests taking precedence over the environment.
AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY
The manufacture of our products involves no animal abuse. PETA, the international organisation that fights to protect animal rights, has awarded us its Animal Free Cruelty certification, which certifies that we carry out no animal testing and are committed never to do so. No animal products, such as leather or silk, are used in Hannun products.
MADE IN EUROPA
70% of furniture sold in Europe is imported from Asia. At Hannun, we advocate local consumption and the reduction of polluting gas emissions. As such, all our products are made in Europe and some regions of North Africa. We’re responsible both at an environmental and social level at Hannun, which is why we centralise production and are committed to having a local economic impact. Meet our workshops.
One of the pressing challenges of the next few years is to turn our packing completely ecological. Currently, our packaging is made with recycled and recyclable boxes, but we want to go further. We aim to completely eliminate the presence of plastic from inside our packing before 2025.
We’re working on this bit by bit: this year, we’ve incorporated recyclable packaging tape with biodegradable adhesive.
